NISESATSU
This suspenseful film is based on the incident of counterfeit bill that happened in Yamanashi soon after World War II. Everyone in Japan tried desperately to live in a chaotic situation in the twenties of the Showa period, when its militarism was replaced with democracy. A heroine (played by Mitsuko Baisho) of this film is a vice-principal of an elementary school in a small village between the mountains where the papermaking industry thrives. Everyone in the village likes her, and one of her old students approaches her on counterfeiting a new thousand-yen bill one day. She thinks that money will enable the children to have a better life. Thereafter all the people in the village begin to counterfeit money. This is the first feature film directed by Yuichi Kimura, who has shown a remarkable talent as a comedian, a broadcast program writer, a cook, and an actor. In this film, he exercises his remarkable storytelling skill supported by his varied career in describing how the villagers attach their hopes to counterfeit bill, having a thrilling human relationship including love between parent and child and a bitter split between the villagers. This high-quality entertainment film consisting of funny and moving stories describes the villagers’ scorn for present mammonism.

Message | Congratulations on your holding Okinawa International Movie Festival.I’m greatly honored to have my first feature film screened here in Okinawa, which is my favorite place. Although this film contains some scenes of a crime, I tried to make it heart-warming and not too serious as much as possible. Please enjoy it in a relaxed mood. |
